For Adults: Compeer Program

Calling all Volunteers!
Compeer programs match friendly, sociable volunteer mental health mentors with adults in Rockland County who are in sustained recovery for their mental health. Volunteers provide an extra level of positive friendship, support, and social interaction to help their Compeer friends—and the volunteers themselves—feel more fulfilled and engaged.

Training provided and 4 hours/month for 1 year commitment required.

Our Compeer program is a chapter of Compeer International, a one-to-one mentoring program that matches a community volunteer with an adult receiving mental health services.

Compeer programs match friendly, sociable volunteers with adults in Rockland County who are in sustained recovery for their mental health. The volunteer and their matched client typically take walks, grab a bite to eat, watch a movie, attend an art exhibit, visit the library, go shopping, or catch a sporting event together. Volunteers provide an extra level of positive friendship, support, and social interaction to help their Compeer friends—and the volunteers themselves—feel more fulfilled and engaged.

Volunteers receive comprehensive training before spending at least four hours per month and one year in duration with their Compeer friends. This gift of friendship helps build a bond of belonging and enhanced wellness. Mental Wellness begins with friendship!

Note: Volunteers may begin their initial contacts via phone or video chat, but will then start to meet with their Compeer friend every month in person following Mental Health Association of Rockland’s safety precautions.

Fee: There is no fee.
